Starting September 16, 2019 individuals who were sexually abused as minors by Diocesan priests in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Dioceses of Fresno, Orange, Sacramento, San Bernardino and San Diego may begin the process of filing claims with the California Independent Compensation Program. This new program is voluntary. Child victim-survivors can elect to enter this program as an alternative to pursuing their claims against the Church in court. The six Participating Dioceses comprise more than 10 million Catholics, about 80 percent of the state’s Catholic population. Compensation determinations are not subject to appeal by the victim.
If you have questions about this program and how it may affect your rights, please contact us today for a free, no obligation consultation. For some victims, participating in the voluntary compensation program might make sense. Others may decide not to participate, and file a lawsuit against the Diocese instead. Either way, it is important for you to gather all of the necessary information before making a decision. Call us today to discuss the pros and cons of each approach. Call Toll Free 1-866-777-2557 or fill out our confidential contact form and a member of our legal team will respond within 24 hours. We understand how difficult it can be to take this step. Please be assured that we will be honest and caring in our discussion with you, and at all times respect your privacy. The abuse you experienced was not your fault. Start the road to healing.
